"On a clear day, I can see forever" by Debra Myers 20x16 acrylic on canvas 2011
The Storm
When I was really young, maybe 5 years old, we moved into a house in a brand new subdivision, on one of the first two streets of houses being built in fact. Across the street from our house was an empty field. It’s funny how clearly I remember that when so much of the intervening years are forgotten.
Had I been older maybe I would have explored that field more, but it held no interest for me at that time. I was more interested in creeks and lakes and trees which still enthrall me to this day.
I recall the day of the first big storm that swept right up to and into our house under the front door flooding our entry. Several tornadoes were sighted in our area and one picked up a storage shed of supplies sitting by the road next to the field and carried it a few hundred feet into that field as I recall.
I had no fear of storms. And no fear that day as it howled outside and rain pounded our house. My mother was fascinated by them, and so I was too. Running to the windows, or standing in the opened garage to get closer to it and feel it’s energy, see the wind whip the trees, the clouds darken and close in, and the lightening flash, and feel the thunder vibrate through my body. It still thrills me to this day.
Painting is another thing I got from my mom. This piece from 2011 is called, "On a clear day, I can see forever" 20x16 acrylic on canvass. If interested, please email me for pricing.
