The other day my cat was being so obnoxious that I let her out into the backyard for a “short time” and then became engrossed in rewriting my artist statement (the never-ending task of trying to put into words what I do). By the time I realized she wasn’t around, it had been a couple of hours. It was dark, the back door open, and the cat nowhere in sight.
So I called her (she does actually come when I call if she’s close by.) She did not come. I went to the front door and called her, sometimes she is there. She didn’t come then either. Instead of panicking, I decided to give it a little bit and see if she showed up. If I write a plea for prayer, she will undoubtedly come right away, and she did before I even got it posted. But she brought me a gift. A first. A little dead mouse. I was very sad to see it. Cute little thing. I shuffled her inside and left it there til the next morning. I think I was hoping it would revive and scamper off in the night. It didn’t.
This episode with the tiny field mouse reminded me of the time a mouse jumped out of a kitchen drawer when my mother opened it one early morning, hit her smack in the chest, and she screamed her delight. LOL. Woke us all up. And that mouse escaped, my mom not being as cunning or skillful a hunter as my cat. (Its fate no doubt ended in a mouse trap that my dad set however.)
And while on the topic of mice, I present this… “There are no eyes to see with” 24x24 mixed media on canvas. Perhaps you can find the correlation.
